Skylink

With the increasing availability of wireless links in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz band and even before the massive spread of Wi-Fi, we gradually built and operated metropolitan wireless networks based on BreezeNET technology in Roudnice nad Labem, Litoměřice, Lovosice, and most notably in Prague. The wireless network used the trade name Skylink and the domain skylink.cz, which today hosts an internet television service.
The large number of wireless links, routers, and switches required monitoring for oversight and capacity planning. Together with colleagues, we designed and gradually implemented a monitoring system based on the SNMP library Scotty and a PostgreSQL database. The system was written in Tcl and PL/pgSQL; the frontend in Java.
